Bio
Whippoorwill was created by Musician and Missourian Sam McKinstry, who's roots run deep in
to the Mississippi River. He has brought his brand of original Blues to Oregon to inspire people to move when they are on the dance floor and sing when they are not.
Sam is a musician who's as comfortable in a Modern Jazz or Old-Time Fiddle Trio as he is in an Orchestra or Experimental Punk Band. The music he writes and performs comfortably nestles itself deep in the bowls of American Music somewhere between two couch cushions once sat on by both Pete Seeger and Howlin Wolf.
When not performing, Sam teaches Music for Portland Public Schools, has a one year old daughter and is, as often as possible, caught hiking with his dog or telling stupid jokes behind his banjo.
Sam would like to thank Olivia Baily for the beautiful artwork she generously contributed. Sam would also like to apologize to Olivia for not being given a better looking subject. Sam would also like to thank Eric Howell for all of his time and energy and all of those in Honky Suckle for everything. Finally, Sam would like to show gratitude to the Portland music community for helping to make this such a great place.
